Alternative Routes Therapists Who Qualifies as a Massage Therapist? Massage Therapy in Ontario is a regulated health care profession. A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario under the Regulated Health Professions Act and Massage Therapy Act. Massage Therapists have thorough training in health sciences, specifically anatomy, physiology, and neurology. Extensive knowledge in orthopedic assessment as well as treating and preventing musculo-skeletal conditions often puts the therapist in the role of health care educator. Postural retraining, therapeutic exercise and self care advice can all be provided by your Massage Therapist. Only a licensed massage therapist who has successfully completed a minimum of 2200 hours of training and completed extensive provincial licensing exams may use the title:
About Our Therapists Tanya Meyers, RMT and Stacey Hauserman, RMT are both Massage Therapists and proprietors of Alternative Routes. Although their approach and technical background vary slightly, they share a similar philosophy of care. As healthcare professionals, both therapists practice with a holistic, preventative approach. Education and promotion of body awareness and self-care are important components of their work. They provide a safe, nurturing environment in which healing, relaxation, and general well being may be enhanced.Tanya Meyers, RMT (registered massage therapist) Tanya is a RMT in Toronto with previous experience in a clinical practice, who is now providing in-home massage therapy treatments. She also teaches workshops on “Basic Massage Techniques To use at Home” and “Infant Massage for Parents and Caregivers”. She is an examiner for the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, and former Media Representative for the Toronto chapter of the Ontario Massage Therapy Association. Her additional training in Pre-natal and Post-natal massage, Infant massage has given her the opportunity to provide labour support for mothers, pregnancy and post-partum massage and teach infant massage to parents and health care providers. In her clinical practice Tanya treats varying conditions including prevention and treatment of repetitive strain injuries and sports injuries, neurological conditions and nerve impingement, chronic muscle tightness and spasms, arthritis and tendinitis, palliative conditions, fibromyalgia, and other chronic pain disorders. Tanya also has additional training in Reiki (level 2) and Thai Massage (2 certificates, 1 from Thailand). Any treatment Tanya provides, be it a relaxation massage or a specific treatment, her philosophy and approach remain the same. “ I feel that it is extremely important to acknowledge the whole person (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) and to treat each individual with respect, dignity and compassion. I believe strongly in empowering clients to achieve optimal health and take responsibility for their health.” T.Meyers, RMT Stacey Hauserman, RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) Stacey is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from Sutherland-Chan School in Toronto. Her experience includes clinical practice within a hospital environment, which provided her with the opportunity to work with a wide variety of conditions. From this she has taken a special interest in treating neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Cerebral Palsy. Stacey incorporates breath work and movement into her massage therapy to increase body awareness and release muscular holding patterns. She has completed her Craniosacral level2 through the Upledger institute and is currently integrating that modality into her massage. Stacey is an ongoing volunteer at P.W.A Toronto, providing weekly treatments to people who are HIV positive. Her passion for bodywork and wellness motivates her towards continuous research and study in this field. |
